The Elders, Sisters and Couples serving in Ghana
On June 9, 2005, President Gay called all the missionaries in Ghana to a conference. He announced the division of the mission. The western half of Ghana becomes the new Ghana Cape Coast Mission. The eastern half of Ghana, as well as Sierra Leone and Liberia to the west of Ghana, remain in the Ghana Accra Mission, with President Gay presiding. President Dil will preside over the new mission. President Dil, from New Zealand, speaks English and French. Togo, Benin, Central African Republic, and Cameroon to the east of Ghana have been added to the new mission. These countries are French speaking. President Dil was originally called to the Ivory Coast Abidjan Mission, also French speaking. President Gay stated that the Church has decided to limit use of European and North American missionaries in the Ivory Coast. President Ounleu, a Stake President in Abobo, Ivory Coast, has been called as the new mission president of Ivory Coast Abidjan Mission which covers the Ivory Coast.
The Ghana Accra Mission has been baptizing about 300 people a month. The goal for June is over 400. The division will allow more focus on the missionary work, as well as helping the districts prepare to become stakes. There is plenty to do for sure!
Sister Markham took as many pictures of the missionaries as she could (they never stand still) for this update. Hopefully some interested parents and others will be happy to see how well "their" missionary looks. These are amazing Elders and Sisters. They are fun to associate with and inspiring to watch.

Pres. Gay had less than a month to set up the mission division.
